“The school was in a good location, and some of the teachers were great!”
“Unfortunately, the school calendar stated that lessons would take place on Monday 13 April. We had already booked our flights and hotel. We later found out that there would be no lessons on 13 April. And Monday was offered as a private lesson. As we had already booked everything, we agreed to the four-day arrangement. On Tuesday 14 April, we found out that there would be no lessons on Friday either due to exams. We were offered a private lesson, lessons on Monday, or a refund. As we had already made other plans, we could only accept the refund. The school knew from the outset that 13 April was a public holiday; that should have been noted! We would have chosen a different week. No activities were offered at the school on Friday due to exams. I had already attended a school in Lima via LanguageCourse.Net, which was brilliant! Unfortunately, I didn’t like the one in Valencia.”
Insider tip: “First, check whether it actually starts on Monday.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: I was disappointed that it was only 3 days instead of 5.

“Some of the teachers were very good and were able to convey the material.”
“Some of the teachers didn’t really seem keen on teaching the material in depth, as evidenced by them turning up about five minutes late every day.
There was a lack of information beforehand that Monday’s classes had been cancelled, with lessons held in the afternoon instead. However, these were private lessons and therefore fewer in number, and Friday was also cancelled due to exams taking place. Had I known, I would have planned a different time for my trip.”
Insider tip: “The start of lessons.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Just 3 days plus 1 private lesson.
Other comments: Accommodating.

“Very well organized — everything went smoothly. There was a thorough placement process to ensure you were placed in the right course level. The school is very centrally located, and while the classrooms are small, they have windows and are great for studying. Both teachers were very kind and knowledgeable (a special thank you for your extra corrections and your sense of humor), and I appreciated that there was always a change during breaks, as it helped lighten the mood in class. The group was a good size with 5–6 people and was well-mixed in terms of the participants’ ages and nationalities. The trip to the Oceánografic was also perfectly organized and one of the highlights of my stay. The atmosphere at the school is overall very friendly and service-oriented. I’ll definitely be back.”
“For me, B2 would probably have been better than C1, because I’m lacking some basic grammar skills and C1 was purely a conversation course.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Great class size and friendly teachers.

“The location of the school. The private lesson as compensation for the cancelled lesson on the public holiday with Ana.”
“Unstructured lessons, far too little grammar. No introduction at the beginning. You just went there to have the lessons. There was no ‘extras’. I would have expected to be shown around Valencia, to be shown and explained things to the new students. There was supposed to be coffee during the break, but it was often already empty or left over from the morning and cold. One excursion was offered in two weeks. I am quite disappointed.”

“Marvelous. I think this is the best school in Valencia. Structured learning, still very flexible, lots of talking and corrections. Super-nice teachers. Focus was very much on the students, not on the teachers (which has been different in other schools I've visited in Valencia.)”
“A bit of communication before coming to the school would have been nice.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: It was a tiny bit too easy, but C1 might have been too difficult.

“Very nice, energetic and competent teachers.
The classes were varied and fun. And it was nice that we had 2 different teachers on 1 day.

Went to the Mercat the last day as a class, was very nice.”
“Too small classes, so not enough classmates that you could interact with outside of class as well.

1 excursion in the week that was indoors.”

“The location is very good, and the people are very friendly. Since the course was too grammar-heavy for me personally, I received two free conversation lessons, which I thought was very nice.”
“I was only in the course for a week, and the people I was with had already been there for about two months and had different needs (certificates, grammar) than I did (speaking and playful activities). I still benefited!”
Quality of teaching / language progress: As already described, I don't think I fit in well with the group. But it was still nice.
Other comments: The people are very friendly and try to help.

“The service and the location were great! They helped us with an appartement from my daughter. And she has a nice place to stay. My progress was also good! My Spanish improved a lot. The mood in the school was good despite the floodings. And they were also involved in the community in a very good way”
“The classroom was a bit too small and the pictures on the website were not really representative. One of the teachers did not tune in to the needs of the class as the other did.
I went to Camino Barcelona last year, and their activities were great. I could not attend one this year because there were less.”

“Location - good teachers.”
“Afternoon activities. The tour of the old town was conducted by a Dutch girl who didn't speak (or didn't wish to speak) Spanish and knew little of the old town. The school should use a local person. The excursion to the Football Club was again with the Dutch girl who proceeded to talk Dutch to two Dutch students. Again a missed opportunity to use the language. The actual tour of the stadium was conducted by a man who spoke English.”

“The location”
“The lessons”
Quality of teaching / language progress: The lessons were not very didactic or methodical. The amount of speaking by the students was far too low. Too little partner and group work. Individual students, who constantly pushed themselves to the fore, determined the course of the lesson.

Quality of teaching / language progress: We were generally very satisfied with our lessons. Delighted that we could have semi-private lessons allowing us to proceed at speed that we were capable of.

"Maria couldn't have been a better host. She was friendly, kind and helpful. She not only walked to school with me the first day but accompanied me to the airport on the last day. We sometimes had breakfast together but always had dinner together. Staying with her was part of the cultural experience of my week. I would thorougly recommend Maria as a host.

Questions and answers about Route 66 Idiomas

I would like to book a room in a shared flat. However, on the weekends, my friend wants to stay over, she is in Alicante during the week. Is this possible?
“Unfortunately, this is not possible. The flats are already full with 5 people and they are single rooms and not suitable for 2 people. ”
Rene, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - Nov 23, 2023
My son is very tall and needs a bed without a boundary at the foot end of the bed in his room in the shared flat. Is this a problem?
“Organising a room with a bed without a boundary at the foot end is no problem, always as long as availability is requested in time.”
Pablo, Administration from Route66 Idiomas, Valencia - Jul 12, 2023
Can you please tell us how and when the airport transfer is arranged?
“You have to select it during the booking process. Once the booking is confirmed and you know your flight-details, please send us them by email, and we can pass it on to the school.

Normally a member of the school will pick-up your son directly at the Airport, waiting at the exit with a sign of the school or the name of your son.

FAQ about Route 66 Idiomas, Valencia

What accommodation would you recommend to me. Would a host family be a good idea?
“Route 66 has a choice between a shared flat or a host family.

If you choose a host family, you will have full immersion in the Spanish language, as you will then be able to practise Spanish with the local family over breakfast and/or dinner! Host families are of very good quality at Route 66.

If you opt for a shared flat, you will have more time to yourself and can do more of your own planning, as no meals are included. Shared flats score slightly lower than host families at Route 66.

All Route 66 accommodations are between 13-30 minutes' walk from the school, so you do not need to use public transport for this.

I recommend choosing homestay accommodation! ”
Robin Rebecca Pietersma, Language Travel Consultant from LanguageCourse.Net - Feb 23, 2024
I have no knowledge of Spanish, I just speak French, do you think that 5 - 6 weeks will be necessary to learn the basics?
“In our experience, 5-6 weeks is enough to learn the basics. You should be able to finish the A1 level starting as a complete beginner. Of course this always also depends on the student.”
René Clerx, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - Feb 16, 2023
What after-school activities are organised by the school?
“The activity schedule can change per week, but most Mondays we eat paella with the students. There is furthermore the option to visit to the town hall (free, open to visitors) and a visit to Oceanografico (€15).”
René, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - May 19, 2022
Is it possible to share an apartment with a travel companion who is not following the language course?
“Yes, this is possible. Please note this clearly in your registration, with the name of the travel companion.”
René, Administration from Route 66 Idiomas - Apr 25, 2022
What is the number of students per class at Route 66?
“Depending on the chosen course, the maximum number of students at Route 66 varies from 1 (Online Private Spanish Lessons) to 10 students (Intensive Spanish Course)”
Which countries are students of Route 66 Idiomas from?

The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.

I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.

Your service was excellent, really following up and holding my hand.! My older step-brother used your service a few years ago to study Spanish in Salamanca and Granada and we found LanguageCourse.Net so helpful then as well.

Just keep up the good work. The organization is excellent, so that even less experienced travellers would feel ok to come to China. I also felt really good in the host family, they were really great!
