St. Julians is a small resort town in Malta, 30 minutes by public transport from Valletta, the capital of the island. St. Julians has good transport connections to most main cities in Malta, making it a great base for travelling around during your stay. Within the city there is plenty on offer, including a number of bays for enjoying the Mediterranean sun. Spinola Bay is the pivotal point of the city, and Gateway School of English, their well-established English language school, is a 12-minute walk from this vibrant location. The school is tucked away in a peaceful area of St. Julians, but is only a small walk to reach the main road where there is a regular bus connection to all parts of the city. It is recommended to buy a 7-Day Explore Card, which allows you to jump on and off the bus for a week as often as you want throughout Malta and Gozo, the next island.

The school offers a number of interesting courses, including in areas such as business, a wide selection of exam courses, teacher training courses, conversational English, and specialist courses focused on sports, cultural activities and history. The staff at Gateway school of English are both qualified and experienced in teaching English as a second language and are all native speakers, without exception. The classrooms come with all the latest equipment, with interactive whiteboards and audio visual facilities to deliver the digital course material in a comfortable environment. All participants in the General course will start off taking a level test that is intended to make sure that all students are placed in a group that will be appropriately challenging and stimulating for their English language skill development. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes, which is the ideal time for introducing a topic and performing some high-quality work related to that subject.

The maximum number of students at any time is 12, ensuring that learners feel comfortable speaking in English to their group, and asking their teacher for any extra help. The groups are typically smaller than those of the summer months.

Apart from that, language assessments should involve speaking too, as it caused some problems if they are good in grammar but they are not able to speak.”

School's reply: Dear Claudia, Thanks for your review. We are sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with your stay however we would like you to elaborate further so that we can investigate this. We know that you weren't satisfied with the food provided by your host mother but you never mentioned that you weren't satisfied with the lessons while you were studying with us. We also understand that the late arrival of your baggage (almost half way through your stay) might have effected your opinion about your overall stay in Malta and we could understand your frustration because of this however we couldn't do anything more to rectify this,but to speak to Air Malta to deliver your suitcase as soon as possible (which we did constantly as we were in contact with you via Whatsapp trying to sort it out for you)

Is a placement test taken before the start of the course?
“Yes. There is a comprehensive online placement test to get an accurate reading of your English language proficiency level before you make the trip to Malta. The test is not an exam, and you are not expected to know all the answers, so only do what you can understand. It should not take you more than 1 hour / 1 hour and 15 minutes.”
