Venue: UNILANG is located in the port city of Santander, on Spain’s north coast. Santander is a lively city with interesting monuments, both historical and modern, and the school is right in the heart of it. Many of these monuments are within walking distance from the school: the mostly gothic Cathedral; the 17th century Convento de Santa Cruz de Santander, once convent, turned tobacco factory and currently awaiting its next incarnation; Cantabria’s Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology; and the Centro Botín with its surrounding gardens and installations, right on the bay.
The school: UNILANG was founded in 1978. With more than 4 decades of history in language teaching, they teach both Spanish to foreigners and English to local residents. Their teachers are highly experienced and are native speakers of the language they teach. Their Spanish classes include different intensities of General Spanish as well as exam preparation courses for the DELE and business specific Spanish.
Getting there: UNILANG is about ten minutes on foot from Santander’s main train station and bus stations, even the ferry terminal is an easy walk away. The Seve Ballesteros-Santander Airport (SDR) is a fifteen minute drive from the school, or about half an hour by bus. For those with an adventurer’s heart, and a little more time on their hands, ferries travel regularly between the UK and Santander.
Coastline: There are many beaches around Santander and some are in the city itself: El Sardinero, a large and popular long sandy beach along the north end and the smaller beaches in a thin line closer to the city centre, on the port side across from Isla de la Torre: Playa de los Peligros by the Maritime Museum; the Playa de la Magdalena and Playa de los Bikinis, near the eclectic Palacio de la Magdalena. Don’t miss out on a visit to the latter, as well as the lighthouses on the many points in the area.
