School identity and location: Linguaschools Barcelona is a boutique-style Spanish school for adult learners and part of the Linguaschools Spanish language school network. The school is located in central Barcelona, between Plaza Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia and the Sagrada Familia area, with easy access to public transport, shops, cafés, restaurants and many of the city’s main cultural areas.
School buildings and facilities: The Barcelona school has two central school buildings with distinctive outdoor spaces, including private gardens and rooftop terraces. These spaces give students places to relax, study, meet classmates and take part in school activities outside the classroom. Classrooms are equipped for in-person Spanish lessons, with digital screens or projectors used where relevant to support teaching. Courses may take place at either one of these buildings, depending on the time of year and level of the student.
Courses and teaching approach: The school offers intensive Spanish courses for different levels and study durations, from short stays to longer-term study. Course options include general Spanish, DELE/SIELE exam preparation, private lessons, evening Spanish courses, and university pathway options where applicable. Classes are taught in small groups by qualified native Spanish-speaking teachers using a communicative Spanish immersion method, with teachers adapting the pace and classroom focus to the level and goals of each group.
Student life and getting around: Linguaschools Barcelona organises a year-round cultural activity programme for adult students, helping them discover local culture, neighbourhoods, food, traditions and social life beyond the classroom. Accommodation options are available within approximately 15–25 minutes' travel distance of the school, depending on the option and availability. The school is close to metro, train and bus connections, making it easy for students to move around Barcelona before and after class.

I also liked that the school conducts very extensive level tests after the completion of one language level so that students know if they are ready to proceed to the next level or not. “Easy to book, quick replies to e-mails before starting the course, easy to complete the online pre-course level test and the oral tests for all of the students were done on the first morning quickly enough that none of us lost any teaching time on the first day, good quality of teaching, friendly teachers and administration staff, textbooks provided free of charge and you can keep these when you leave, nice terrace at the front of the school and nice rooftop terraces, good WiFi, snacks and drinks available to purchase at reception, plenty of places to get food and drink nearby, central location, during the winter (I went in January) organized social / cultural activities offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings (which I think is relatively good for a winter programme), classes had a good range of students of different ages and nationalities”

- The school organizes a year-round cultural activity program for adult students, with free or low-cost activities that help students discover Barcelona beyond the classroom. Recent examples include welcome drinks, Gothic Quarter walking tours, beach volleyball, salsa night, Correfoc, Els Tres Tombs, Tapantoni and visits to local neighborhoods or cultural events. The program changes weekly.

"The flat was nice and clean and close enough to the school. I felt it was a bit far from the city centre, however (it was near Joanic metro station), but had I rented a bike it wouldn't have felt as far. That being said, there was a market directly outside my front door and a Lidl on the next street, which was very convenient!

"Friendly host and the breakfast he made was good but I was disappointed that I was not allowed to use the kitchen to cook supper for myself - I did not realize that I needed to specifically ask for a host that allows this as in the past with Homestays in other cities I have done this was always allowed. I will know this for future Homestays. The host did offer to let me use the washing machine.

"Nurea cooked amazing meals and was very attentive. The room was small and comfortable. There was a cabinet for my clothes and 2 drawers in the shower. I was there during the summer so it was hot and uncomfortable without a fan or A/C. The balcony was outside my door and the garbage smell was strong. I was instructed to use the water very sparingly and turn off the shower while I use the soap. The location is not in the best neighbourhood and a bit far from the school and the major sites. Nurea was kind to do my laundry for me the day before I left. I spent 4 nights at her home.

"The school only outsources to commercial housing companies.
The location and basic facilities are reasonable for the price.
Throughout my course, however, I had a rather negative experience in terms of living together (you shouldn't have false expectations here, as it was very much a case of living past each other without any real consideration for the flatmates in terms of tidiness, cleanliness, noise, etc.). In addition, my room had several defects (air conditioning did not work, door was a glass door that was semi-transparent). On explicit request (complaint was passed on by the school) at least the door was repaired. In return, however, the rental company insisted on a late check-in fee, which could certainly have been waived as a gesture of goodwill. Conclusion: the basic facilities (possibility of a single room with your own bed) and location of the flats is a definite plus point in favour of this option, but living together is just as (...anonnym practical?) in a hostel shared room. At the end of the day, it's still the commercial letting companies that want to make a profit.

Many students choose this living option due to the independence that you have when compared to homestay accommodation, as you will not have to adapt to another family’s customs or timetable - which is not for everyone. Will a certificate of attendance be issued at the end of the course?

I am looking for a way to get my language level officially recognised. Now of course there is DELE, but my institution also gave two other options:
(b) Certificado oficial de nivel avanzado (nivel B2) de español para extranjeros, expedido conforme a lo previsto en el artículo 61 de la Ley Orgánica 2/2006, de 3 de mayo, de Educación, por las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas.
(c) Certificado de Aptitud en español para extranjeros expedido por las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas.
Do you know what kind of certificates these are and the procedure to obtain them?

“The DELE exam is the official exam taken through the Instituto Cervantes. Students have to apply for this exam themselves through the Cervantes website. It can be taken in Spain and around the world. It is an internationally recognised exam that costs between 130-200 euros depending on the level. It usually takes about 2-3 months to get the results for this exam and the registration period is usually 6-8 weeks before the exam date.
For the second option, I am not sure if we would count or not - there are schools called 'Escuela Oficial de Idiomas' where you can take a course and therefore receive a certificate at the end. We are an Instituto Cervantes-approved school, but we are not the Escuela Oficial de Idiomas. So in this case, students should double-check whether a B2 certificate from a Cervantes-accredited private language school would suffice.”

“We don’t offer accommodation in host family with room only. The minimum is with breakfast.”

Does this school offer activities?
“Linguaschools offers weekly activities and weekend excursions, all year round. Activities vary per week and are communicated to you at the school. Some activities are free of charge. For other activities a small fee is charged to cover costs such as transport, museum entrance, etc. The activities and excursions on our website are merely an indication of the things we regularly offer. In most schools we create the activity programme only one week in advance, so we cannot say with certainty what activities will be running when you are at the school. Activities might require a minimum number of students.”

“At the end of each level, the student takes a short exam (written + oral). The whole group takes the exam, so we recommend doing it as it shows the student how far they have come etc.

I would like to join an intensive 20 course, but I can only join in the morning class. However, I read that the schedule is made on the first day. Would it be possible to guarantee the morning class before I sign up?
“Classes can be in the mornings or afternoons as it depends on the number of groups, level of the student etc.
If a student has a very concrete reason why they can only attend morning or afternoon classes; for example they are working or they are studying, they can send us a document to prove this (from the employer or the university for example) and then we can give that student priority over others.
But I cannot say 100% without fail they will have morning classes.”

When should I book leisure programmes and excursions from the school?
“The list of current leisure programmes for the week is announced every Monday morning. You will be given a detailed description of each activity and told by what day and time you need to sign up. You can book and pay for the activities at the school's secretariat. Some excursions require a minimum number of participants and will be finalised once there is a group.”

“The timetable of each course is always noted in the comments inside the course section.
If you select a course where there are morning/afternoon time slots, that is because there are classes on both slots.

“Lessons are in general from Monday to Friday. We are closed during weekends and bank holidays. We would recuperate 50% of the group classes and all of the private classes.”

The Intensive courses take place in groups of a maximum of 10 students, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and nationalities.
