Location: CES/Cork Language Centre International is located in the bustling city of Cork, Ireland. Housed in the Victorian Quarter in the centre of Cork, the school is surrounded by restaurants, cafés, shopping centres and has both train and bus links within walking distance. Close to the banks of the River Lee, the surrounding area of the school is well known by "foodies" as having multiple excellent options for dining, Cork being hailed by many as the Food Capital of Ireland. Students have everything they need to enjoy the city in comfort whilst reaching their language goals.
A family-run school, with over 45 years of experience in providing English as a second language tuition, ACET/Cork Language Centre International has all of the resources and qualified teaching staff to assist students in reaching their language goals, in a positive and friendly environment.
School facilities: The school's facilities include a cafeteria, full use of the kitchen for students, a computer lab, free after-class language learning software, a movie room, a games room, a garden and a student support desk for any questions or queries that may arise. All classrooms are equipped with heating and have ample natural light to create an optimal learning environment, while most have access to electronic whiteboards and televisions.
Course selection: Course selection is extensive, including general courses for students of all levels, junior programmes throughout the summer months, professional development opportunities, and a range of exam preparation programmes.

“There is a very relaxed, pleasant atmosphere in the school. The teachers conduct their lessons in the same way. The teachers were very open and friendly. A lot of value is placed on communication.”
“I would have liked a bit more structure. In the week I booked, Monday fell on a public holiday, but the course fee remained the same and I wasn't offered any compensation, such as a few extra hours in the afternoon. So I basically only had 16 hours of lessons. I also don't think it was entirely satisfactory that when I book a language course for one or two weeks, I am in a class with students who are there for 8 months. In my opinion, the lessons are tailored to their needs.”

“The school is centrally located. The equipment is essentially good, but when it comes down to it, the connection between the laptop and the projector doesn't work. The "presentation" of the welcome package looks professional. However, it is not particularly substantial for adults. Why do I need a plastic card with my name and the course? What does the programme actually contain.

“This is the 5th "Teachers refresher course" I have participated in. Among others at CES in Cork, Dublin and the UK. This was by far the biggest disappointment I have experienced up until now.
The teacher was not prepared for this course, but had expected CLIL participants.
Half of the students were primary teachers and half were secondary teachers, which made it even more difficult for the teacher to accommodate everyone.
There was no information about the content of the course. On request, a compilation of the content we had covered during the week was handed out later on Friday.
The lessons were dominated by small talk and little practical content. On request, a few (6) copies were handed out, but these in no way justify the fee of € 50 for course materials. Overall, the course did not meet the needs and expectations of the participants in any way. The course fee of € 575,- for a 4-day course is out of all proportion to what I experienced there.
The first afternoon activity was a guided tour of the city. This was conducted in such a way that we participants of the "Teachers Refresher Course" thought it was a farce. For the fact that this is included in the price, one should actually get a proportionate refund of this money. The administration's explanation that it had taken place exactly as planned was very surprising for us. When the school insists that this is the standard, it is difficult to recommend this school.
The accommodation in the student dormitory was well-equipped, although quite shabby when we moved in (overflowing rubbish bins, sticky cupboards, tables and floors).
The actual location of the "shared apartment" was unacceptable - the other flatmates felt the same way. The noise from the street was immense, so that one could hardly have a conversation in the kitchen with the window open. At 3:00 a.m., the truck delivery for the supermarket on the block arrived. The clattering unloading took about 1 hour. At 5:30 a.m. the supermarket staff began to move the goods around or bring them into the shop on roller containers. Everything directly under the windows of the flat. Given the range of "student's accommodation" in Cork, this block should definitely be avoided.
As stated at the outset, this was a truly disappointing experience. The price of € 765 for a four-day course with accommodation in a student's block stands in no relation to this for me.

"My host is a very kind person who picked me up and took me to the airport. I talked with her a lot. Despite her age, she’s very sharp. We communicated very well. She’s a great cook—she bakes bread and makes jam. The portions were generous, and everything tasted great.
What I didn’t like was that I didn’t know before I went that she already had another 17-year-old student staying there. This could be improved.
Another area for improvement is that she knew I was coming to her house long before I did. I only found out I was staying with her 3 or 4 days beforehand. This could be better.
What I really didn’t like was that, overall, the house wasn’t clean. The bathroom, the bedroom, and especially the kitchen were dirty. I’ve never in my life seen a kitchen so, so dirty (cabinets, countertop, appliances, dishcloth, sink...). It was hard for me to look at all of this while having breakfast or dinner.

A Japanese student is looking to book the Gold Programme for 50+. I'm just wondering if during the English classes there are also only students of 50+ or if the 15 lessons are in the Standard Course 15 (mixed ages)?

Will it be possible to organise a return transfer with the host family?
“If you book a homestay accommodation, the host family will come pick you up at the airport. This service is for arrivals between 9:00 and 22:30 only. The return transfer is not organised by the school but you can ask the school's reception to arrange a taxi to the airport. ”
