- A 45 minute lesson duration is a bit shorter than normal.
Location: The small French beach town of Biarritz is situated in the South West of France, 28km from the Spanish border. Biarritz French Courses Institute is a 20 minute walk from the main centre of the town and is amongst peaceful surroundings. All the main sites of interest like The Art Deco Casino and The Russian Orthodox Church are located around the hub of the town and there is a free shuttle bus not far from the school entrance. The town is right on the coast with beautiful sandy beaches to enjoy and a promenade running along by it. Along the coastline, on a jutting out rock stands the statue of the Virgin Mary, a good luck for sailors in the past to be guided back to shore in bad weather and this is accessible via a pedestrian bridge which offers panoramic views of the area.
School facilities: The school has a comfortable layout with a number of facilities for you to maximise your learning experience. There is a movie rental system, a library, daily newspapers and a well equipped computer area as well as a lounge and a garden to relax in a break or after class.
Course structure: Biarritz French Courses Institute focuses its teaching methodology around a people-centred approach, which is reflected in the courses that it has on offer. There is a wide range of options aside from the general language courses such as senior programmes, exam preparation courses for the DALF and DELE exam as well as combination courses with golf, surf and Thalassotherapy.
Cultural programmes: Biarritz has a deep history with the sea, with the locals having an extensive knowledge of the uses of the sea water and this has culminated in a popular place for Thalassotherapy. This is the use of different sea waters in both cosmetic and health care treatments in spas or beauty salons. The school acknowledges the interest in this style of therapy and offers the combination of learning French with 3 spa treatments of this technique per week in a local 5 star hotel. The staff are attentive to the students individual needs and strive to ensure that each student reaches their potential whilst studying at Biarritz French Courses Institute.

Insider tip: “One of the world's best surf sites is really the big advantage of Biarritz. The town is great and beside good clubs and nice restaurants, it offers some cultural activities (e.g. exhibitions, music festivals,...). But the season is definitely over by the end of September.”
Other comments: As I already took a French class once in Montpellier I had something to compare with. So what was poor in this school in Biarritz is that there were only 2 different levels / classes!! Hence students with different levels were grouped in one class together. This does not help anybody. For some students with a lower level the teaching was too fast and the ones with an advanced level do not really improve their knowledge because they always have to wait until the teacher explained to the lower level ones.

Can the BLCI organize 1 week of French & Surf for two teenagers (17 years old) and just the language course for the remaining weeks? The teenagers then want to go surfing themselves and rent the equipment. They already have previous knowledge of surfing. Is this possible?

“Surfing is in the early/late afternoon depending on the tide. The exact times will be communicated on site. It's a 20 minute walk from the language school to the surf school, the shuttle takes a little longer.”
