Positive aspects of school
"With the exception of one or two teachers, the staff are very passionate and patiently teach students until they fully understand.
The administrators are also very friendly and helpful."
Negative aspects
"Even though we’re in different rooms in the dorm, the living space is so cramped that the noise is unbearable.
The dorm manager would scream late at night and call friends over, making it hard to sleep until morning once or twice a week.
I’ve brought this up several times, but it’s been to no avail.
There are many people who show absolutely no consideration for their fellow residents.
There are no keys for the dorm rooms.
In an environment where people party like that at night, it seems impossible for female students to stay there."

City/place
"The city itself is quiet and a great place to study, but the cost of living seems high."
Accommodation
"My room is right next to the elevator, and for the first few days, I kept waking up to the loud noise. For about a month, there was no hot water, and even after I complained several times, nothing was done to fix it.
Loud phone calls at night lasting at least five hours were the norm—it was the worst."

Positive aspects of school
"Small classes, friendly teachers and staff."
Negative aspects
"Planned trip around dates for 50 plus program and paid extra but there wasn’t a program. Limited activities and as a beginner difficult as all in Spanish. For a beginner level the content didn’t include anything useful such as going to restaurant, shopping public transport etc. This is the same as CLIC. The structure of each 2-hour teaching block being taught by different teachers would be fine except each teacher didn’t seem to have coordinated with the other about content and on several occasions they covered the same content on the same day. Would prefer more conversation classes with much more of student speaking."

"The room was cramped and there was not a lot of stuff, no cleaning and no change of towels and linens during my 2 week stay. Breakfast was just coffee and a piece of bread, no ham or cheese, etc. The food was good, although I didn't always make it to meal time, then there was no food. They were friendly at breakfast and dinner, otherwise I didn't meet them.
Was at a hotel in Almunecar at the weekend.
Fewer activities at school than a year ago. My level group was suitable for me."

Positive aspects of school
"Staff were superb, very friendly, fun and knowledgeable. They seemed genuinely interested in student welfare. The location in central Granada was perfect with cafés, bars, restaurants and sights all within minimal walking distance. There was a sunny terrace on which we could chat to fellow students during breaks."
Negative aspects
"There were initial teething problems, however, the school was responsive to my concerns and resolved the issues."

City/place
"Granada is a fabulous city. It's got a bit of everything and it's very affordable. The transport links are good and the staff at Linguaschools provided great tips and suggestions."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"The course was really well balanced. The first lesson focused on grammar and the second on using that grammar in conversation. I opted for additional conversation lessons in week 2 as the quality of teaching and the ambience at the school was so good."
Accommodation
"Had a few teething problems related to the accommodation. The first family weren't able to host me as they were oversubscribed and the second proved untenable. My hosts for week 2 were fabulous and I enjoyed a comfortable room, great food and excellent company."

"The hostess, Mercedes, was quite talkative, which more or less forced me to speak a lot of Spanish. I felt that this did more for my Spanish skills than the lessons at school. Nothing wrong with that, though.
As a cancer patient, Mercedes placed a lot of emphasis on healthy eating, which I really liked: Wholemeal rolls, freshly cooked every day with lots of vegetables. I felt very well looked after!"

Accommodation
"I wanted shared apartment so that I can make friends and hangout with people who has similar language goal as mine. I never stayed apartment with its owner and did not even hear about this kind of accommodation. It was quite awkward. Especially on host's days off (includes weekends), my host stayed in the house all day long. Also Whenever I go into the kitchen, I feel like I'm being monitored for no reason.
I felt uncomfortable whenever I cook and the host turn my room light off when I went to Kitchen (to save electricity).
I did not use washing machine much and most of laundry was done by hand wash.
The host was good person though. But it was really uncomfortable. I really wished to live with other students.
If host is living in a same accommodation, school should let student know. It was very uncomfortable 4 weeks of my life and I do not wish to go back ever."

"Tickets to visit the Alhambra should not be bought at kiosks. They are thieves. We bought tickets in a kiosk for EUR 59. The price should have been EUR 14.85 only. The price should have been EUR 9 for my wife and I because we are over 65 years old."

Other comments
"When the school is at full capacity, there are insufficient toilet facilities. Normally one has to queue for 3 to 5 minutes. This is not appropriate in my opinion."
Accommodation
"The accommodation at 8 Avenue de Italia was very poor and not fit for 4 students at a time. Very poor kitchen facilities with broken drain where water has to be collected in buckets. Everything is very old from tv to microwaves. Broken showers and blocked drain. Basically this place in my opinion is not fit for students to live there for the cost per week"

Positive aspects of school
"It's hard to say what was best about the school, but I felt welcomed by all the staff and asking for help was very easy. I had three wonderful teachers, Nuria, Ana Hernanates? and Ana Delgado. Nuria gave a great lecture on the historical development and she knew that I did not understand so much Spanish so she spoke some English to, so several of us could follow the story with her. I want to have it emailed. I had three private lessons and then became a little more acquainted with that teacher, but all three teachers were super good at giving positive feedback."

"I have nothing negative to say. As you learn more, you need to communicate more. We were never told how to get online so we could hear Spanish, so the staff should be trained in that."

"I enrolled in SHM from Australia, having never learned Spanish before, and with little basic knowledge at all.
From my first day, the school was not only a wonderful learning institution, but also a tremendous support network for me on all levels. From coming with me to the Office for Foreigners in order to help organise my long term student visa, to assisting me in applying for work, the staff at the school were unfailingly kind, helpful and supportive.
In the time I attended I had both private and group classes. I had a great time regardless of whether it was one on one, or with other students – my classes were filled with humour, great conversation, and learning. I always felt I could ask any of the teachers to explain things more fully, and was often aware that the teacher was setting different level exercises for each student in the class, to ensure that all were learning at the appropriate speed. I also noticed that in many cases teachers actively sought innovative and creative ways of teaching. They genuinely sought to engage their students interactively, and teach in novel and interesting ways.
I felt the teachers gave their heart and soul to the job and really cared about each student to walk through the door. Our social occasions were wonderful, and the friends I made whilst at the school – both staff and students – will remain friends for life.
From the moment of my booking in Australia, I was assisted in everything I needed to apply for my student visa, find a flat, and begin a new life. The school understands the dislocation many people feel on moving to a new country, whether it is for a month or permanently, and are always on hand to help.
I can’t recommend SHM more highly, and having spoken to many other people in Granada who have attended other courses, I feel very fortunate that I chose one so well organised, helpful, and financially affordable. No matter where you come from or what you hope to achieve in learning Spanish, SHM will work with you to make sure you make those goals a reality.
Thank you all so much for your kindness, friendship, and good times."
