The Central region of France is known as Centre-Val de Loire. In 2016 its name was changed from Centre to Centre-Val de Loire, with its perimeters remaining the same. The River Loire runs right through the middle of the region, dividing the north from the south. Along the banks of the river are many spectacular Châteaus. The Château de Chenonceau, Château de Chambord and the Château de Villandry are the most visited. Orléans is the region's capital city, which rests on the River Loire, on the northern curve of the river. The Cathédrale Sainte-Croix d'Orléans is the city's most influential feature, towering above the other buildings. The Chartres Cathedral is a popular attraction in the North of Centre-Val de Loire.
