Home Language International: HLI places students in Galashiels in the homes of qualified teachers, where they live, learn, socialise and interact. Each programme is fully immersive, giving students valuable one-to-one tuition and "real life" interactions and exchanges in English. HLI has many hundreds of teachers around the world, ensuring students receive tutors best suited to their individual needs and development. English lessons are generally on a one-to-one basis from within the teacher's home. Activities, excursions and social events, such as mealtimes with the host family, are all part of the fully immersive learning experience that HLI offers.
Course selection: HLI (Home Language International) Scotland provides fully immersive language courses suitable to students of all levels, necessities and ages. Programmes include a set amount of English lessons per week, course material specific to a student's level and needs, full-board accommodation within the teacher's home and activities and excursions, according to the course type selected. Programmes are suitable and available to children, teenagers, adults and professionals. Available course types may vary depending on the location, but generally include English for Business, sports orientated study holidays, Exam Preparation, Specific Learning programmes tailor-made to a student's needs, Teacher Refresher courses, Senior programmes and much more. Accommodation, activities and lessons are also all available individually.
Methodology: HLI programmes allow students to immerse themselves entirely in English for the whole duration of their learning programme. Students' practise their English during their lessons, free time, daily routines, and social activities such as mealtimes in the teacher's home. This one to one attention allows students the best opportunity to learn English at the pace best suited to their needs and goals.
Tutors: All teachers are highly qualified and experienced. Students are matched with tutors according to their needs, course type, expectations and requested location.
Facilities: All host families (teachers) provide students with full-board accommodation with a private bedroom, study area and free WIFI.
Accreditations: HLI (Home Language International) is accredited by the Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities (ASIC).

This programme represents the opportunity to live with your teacher in their home, in this case in the rural Scottish town of Galashiels. This location is suitable for those students who prefer to live in a quiet, more community-based environment than what you can typically find in a more metropolitan setting. You will have 20 one-to-one classes every week, and you get to determine what the topics will be, since these classes are exclusively for you.
All teachers for the home tuition programme possess either a teaching certificate or a university degree that qualifies them for the position - so you can be sure that your classes will be professionally planned and carried out. Your host family will prepare your meals and also show you around the town after arrival. Galashiels is a fairly small town, but you will find it helpful to be shown where all the shops and services are that you might need during your stay.
As with every Study & Live in your Teacher's Home home tuition location, you will have a Local Organiser nearby, who is there to help you ensure that your studies and your living situation are all meeting your expectations.

Standard arrival and departure on SUNDAYS.
Two students with the same language level, sharing the lessons and generally also a room: up to 20% discount, depending on the type of course and the duration of the stay.
If you do not arrive at the airport indicated on your family profile or if you arrive/leave the host family before 8:00 or after 20:00 charges will be increased. A supplement may be charged for late arrival and UM services (unaccompanied minors) if there is a lot of waiting time.
SUPPLEMENTS:- Any booking which includes Dec 24th, 25th or 26th (Christmas) or Dec 31st or Jan 1st (New Year): GBP 145. If the stay includes both Christmas and New Year, the supplement is charged twice.
- Close supervision (the teacher or an adult member of the family is at home at all times when the student is there): GBP 150 per week. Compulsory for students aged 13 or under, optional for students under 18.
- VIP programme (especially designed for people who would like a superior standard of meals and accommodation and a private bathroom): GBP 400 per week.
- The organisation welcomes students with physical disabilities (such as vision or hearing impairments), emotional or behavioural disorders (such as ADHD) or learning difficulties (such as dyslexia), provided the organiser is notified in advance. A supplement of GBP 150 per week may be applied.
- Airport transfer on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday: GBP 20 extra.
Students must insure themselves against illness and accidents to themselves and third parties.
Students aged 15 and under must book 2-way airport transfers unless they are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

“Yes, you can come with someone. You can come with a friend that has the same level and wants to take the course with you. You will then benefit from a 20% reduction each. If the accompanying person does not want to take the course, they will need pay for their stay. Students aged 4 or over get a 20% reduction off the price of the programme. Children under 4 years old get a 75% reduction.”

Visa Documents
Nationals from USA do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 20. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
Check visa requirements for nationals from other countries.
Nationals from countries that require a visa will receive documents from the school, related to booking confirmation, which is required for the visa application.

This programme represents the opportunity to live with your teacher in their home, in this case in the rural Scottish town of Galashiels. This location is suitable for those students who prefer to live in a quiet, more community-based environment than what you can typically find in a more metropolitan setting. You will have 15 one-to-one classes every week, and you get to determine what the topics will be, since these classes are exclusively for you.
All teachers for the home tuition programme possess either a teaching certificate or a university degree that qualifies them for the position - so you can be sure that your classes will be professionally planned and carried out. Your host family will prepare your meals and also show you around the town after arrival. Galashiels is a fairly small town, but you will find it helpful to be shown where all the shops and services are that you might need during your stay.
As with every Study & Live in your Teacher's Home home tuition location, you will have a Local Organiser nearby, who is there to help you ensure that your studies and your living situation are all meeting your expectations.
