Venue: Meiji Academy in Sapporo is located right beside the popular Susukino neighbourhood, the city’s main entertainment and shopping district. Sapporo is renowned for its beautiful, mild summers and picturesque snowy winters, not to mention its friendly inhabitants. Meiji Academy is in the heart of the action in Sapporo and there is much to see and do in the surrounding streets. Nakajima Park, a large green space complete with a lake and two streams as well as several important buildings is less than 15 minutes away, on foot. One of the biggest attractions of Hokkaido is its stunning scenery and the city of Sapporo is blessed with several mountains just at its back. The nearby mountains played host to the 1972 Winter Olympics and have many places of interest, including a ski resort, just outside the city.
Courses: Students attending Japanese language courses at Meiji Academy can add one the culture based modules to their programme such as Traditional Culture, Japanese Business Manners, or Pop Culture. If you’d like to put extra emphasis on your communication skills, the Conversational Japanese module is a great option, or even Private lessons to work on specific topics or areas where you’d like to see more improvement. Meiji Academy in Hokkaido also runs a fabulous Winter programme which incorporates a full range of seasonal activities to their Standard Japanese course.
Getting around: Meiji Academy is well connected to Sapporo’s reliable public transportation system. The closest tram stop is Higashihonganji-Mae, about 5 minutes away on foot, while the nearest subway station is Nikajimakoen, at the end of Nakajima Park, 13 minutes away. Students will find it easy to travel to most of the sites in the city. Travel time from the school to the New Chitose International Airport (CTS) is about 50 minutes by car, or an hour and a quarter by public transport.

"The apartment is a bit outdated, but quite large by Japanese standards. All necessary things available (heating, air conditioning, microwave etc.). Only the vacuum cleaner was already falling apart as the suction pipe was only attached to the suction head with adhesive tape. Clean and tidy.

“In this case, there will be no Japanese lessons on public holidays. The school would like to point out that they do not offer replacement lessons for lessons missed on public holidays, but they do organise alternative social/cultural events during your study period.
