What we dislike about the school
- An older average age per class than in other schools in the same city.
Venue: Maxx Institute Mallorca is located in the heart of Palma de Mallorca, a little away from the city centre, in a neighbourhood with wide avenues, libraries, and schools in beautiful historic buildings. Palma on the island of Mallorca is the capital city of Spain’s Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Not only is Palma de Mallorca renowned for its clear blue waters and sandy beaches; as an island that has been inhabited by several different nations for well over 2000 years, it has a fascinating history and varied architectural styles to match. Maxx Institute is only a 20 minute walk from the Paseo Maritimo and the sea.
Courses: Maxx Institute offers students small classes with personalised attention, to better meet their learning needs. They have group courses at all levels with either 20 or 30 lessons per week for a fully immersive experience when coming from abroad, or long term evening courses more suitable for foreign residents. Private lessons are also available and can be booked on their own or in combination with a group course. Maxx Institutes also provide Bildungsurlaub programmes.
Getting around: Maxx Institute Mallorca is about a ten-minute walk away from the island’s main intermodal transit station at Plaza España, and there are also several bus lines that pass in front of the school. Buses run from the station at Plaza España to the island’s international Palma-Son Bonet Airport (PMI) at regular intervals throughout the day, and the total travel time from the front door of the school to the airport is just under half an hour. For students arriving by boat, the school is about half an hour away from the ferry terminal.
Maxx Institutes: Maxx Institutes has Spanish schools in three different locations: Ibiza, Mallorca and Madrid. They also offer online courses. The flagship school is the Instituto de Idiomas Ibiza which was founded in 2008 and which has built a solid reputation for its high quality Spanish courses, its personalised approach, and its exciting programme of cultural activities.

“I liked the 50s to 70s group activities as it meant you could travel alone but still feel social connection and have things to do with the group.”
“I was put into a group that was far too advanced for me. They played a tape and asked me to write down about the people. I only recognized two words but the two other people in my group could say a lot about each person. It was obvious that class was way too advanced for me.
I think I was put there because the beginner A1 group was full. It was an extremely stressful first day. Marc tried to convince me I was in the right group and that the tutors said I would be fine but it was clear to me it was well too advanced. The other girl in the group had 28 months study behind her.
I was moved after insisting I I was in the wrong group and this caused my first and second day of only 5 days to be disrupted and stressful.
I think the grouping was done for the same of the schools numbers and not for my benefit at all which ruined my first 2 days - shame.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: 50 plus worked well. Great idea.
Other comments: Classes for beginners should have been broken down into two separate classes instead of putting me in too high a group because they had too many in the beginner class. I found that very stressful.
School's reply: Dear Karen, thank you for your feedback. We would like to clarify that you were placed in Week 2 - A1 (A1.1) because LanguageCourse informed us that you had recently completed an intensive Spanish course in Málaga and had already covered the content taught in Week 1 - A1 (also A1.1). The decision was therefore based on your previous knowledge, not class numbers; in fact, your original group was smaller than the beginner group you later requested. After speaking with you on Monday, we agreed you would let us know your decision later that day, but instead we received your request through LanguageCourse. We moved you before classes started on Tuesday, meaning only your first day, not your first two days, was affected. Although we see the situation differently, we appreciate your feedback =)
