Location: LTL Mandarin School is situated in the Da’an District of Taipei City. This neighbourhood is to the east of the city. It is the home to National Taiwan University, and a thriving student area. There are a couple of large markets as well as music venues, bars, street vendors selling food and boutiques.

Getting around: The school is a five-minute walk from the Xinyi Anhe subway station. The Xinyi Anhe line runs through the station and this runs all the way north into the Tamsui District. There are alternative options including a ten minute walk to the Zhongxiao Dunhua station for the Bannan Line, or a 12-minute walk to the Daan station for both the Wenhu Line and the Tamsui-Xinyi Line. There are lots of bus routes around the area.

Major features of Taipei City: The Shi-men Ting neighbourhood, to the south of the city, is an excellent shopping district. Nearby is the Lungshan Temple and the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. These are all around 30 minutes by public transportation from the school. LTL Mandarin School is a 20-minute walk from TAIPEI 101 observation deck. Whilst to the north east of the city is the Raohe Night Market, a quick 28 minute bus ride from the school.

“Teachers are very passionate. The administration is very helpful with all things both school and non-school related. Classes are small. The textbooks/materials used are good.”
“The school should avoid putting heritage speakers and non-heritage speakers in the same class, as the two types of students struggle with very different issues. Lessons would also benefit from having a little more structure at times.”

Quality of teaching / language progress: I generally enjoyed my course, but struggled with one of my teachers, whose teaching style I found very demotivating (she interrupted me very often, would talk very fast, would go on long rants that were not helpful to my learning). In the end, I ended up not attending my last class, but the school compensated me for this by allowing me to switch my last four hours with said teacher with two hours of private classes with another teacher that I had gotten along well with.
