Location: Les ateliers FL Nice is perfectly situated in the heart of the city, just a minute’s walk from the Old Town and right across from the Coulée Verte park. It’s also very close to the central Place Massena, with the iconic Promenade des Anglais seafront only a 10-minute stroll away. This prime location gives students an authentic Riviera experience in a safe, vibrant, and central setting.

Travelling around the city: Thanks to its central location on rue Alfred Mortier, the school is perfectly connected to Nice’s public transport network. Several tram and bus lines are just a short walk away, making it easy to reach every part of the city. The closest tram stop is Jean Médecin (Line 1 and Line 2), only a few minutes on foot, providing direct access to the main train station Nice-Ville, the Port, and the Nice Côte d’Azur Airport.

Local attractions: The major museums in Nice, as well as the famous Promenade des Anglais, are just a 10-minute walk away, making major city features and museums easily accessible on foot.

“I really appreciated that we had plenty of opportunities to speak French with our teacher, Madame Laurence. She also encouraged us to continue speaking French with our classmates during breaks, which helped create a fully immersive environment. I also enjoyed the diversity of the group, there were students from all over the world. It was a great way to learn about different cultures and backgrounds, and since many people didn’t speak much English, it gave us the perfect opportunity to practice French together.”

“Basically, the course (i.e. the morning classes) was not aimed at the target group (+50). The very traditional way of teaching with extensive grammar lessons and written tests was not what we needed, but more speaking and daily use of the language.
Furthermore, there was a lack of a plan and explanations as to why and who the class was merged with and why they chose the particular grammar they had chosen. Also, why the course advertised 5 days were spread over 4 days. Too much energy was spent trying to understand what was going on and why.”

I particularly liked the choice of "talking topics", they were all related to France, French culture or the French-speaking world.”

Other comments: I wish there'd been more emphasis on pronunciation and reading aloud. Instead, the emphasis seems to have been to push us to fluency as soon as possible (The "Communicative Method"). For my goal of reaching B2 in a minimum of lessons this is not ideal, I would rather have a solid base in pronunciation and reading aloud (which I can then use to progress on my own as well as with further lessons) before aiming for fluency. Reaching fluency without a good base is a sentence to spend endless hours trying to correct bad habits of pronunciation and reading aloud.

The school is not close to the beach or town. What is the advantage of being located in the north of the city and how do I get to the center?
“Les Ateliers is located in a pretty residential area a little away from tourism. You can practice your French in the surrounding shops as they know the students and are a bit more patient than in the tourist areas of Nice. The tram or bike takes you very quickly to the center and the beach.”

Can we leave our bikes in the Les Ateliers schoolyard at night? At what time does the schoolyard close in the evening?
“No problem, they can keep their bikes at the school yard during the nights but please note that it closes at 5 PM every day so I am afraid they cannot access to the school at 6 PM.
They can make these arrangements directly with the school reception at their arrival.”
