Location: Kaplan International Languages in Torquay is located on the outskirts of the city. It is in a quiet residential neighbourhood, with a smattering of local shops and pubs.
Getting around: The centre of Torquay is a 20-minute walk from the school entrance. There are also buses that get to the centre. The stops are a short walk from the school, and the total journey time is around 15 minutes depending on the time of day.
Local attractions: The small beach resort of Torquay offers its visitors museums to learn more about the area, shops, cafes and local restaurants. The area has a number of interesting natural attractions especially along the coastline. The other side of the coast sits Babbacombe Beach and Oddicombe Beach. These are next to each other, and are both around 30 minutes by public transport, or a 35-minute walk from the school.
Courses: There are general English courses, an IELTS supplementary class, a business supplementary course and long term English programmes.
40+ Programme: Kaplan in Torquay offers a specific programme for those over 40 years old. This is a two week course that includes activities during the week and one full day excursion.

St Michael’s accommodation features single bedrooms that all have their own en-suite bathrooms, as well as a shared kitchen, modern furnishing, a common lounge, and an area dedicated to study.

Nationals from USA do not require a visa to study short term courses up to 180 days. A valid passport and an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is required to enter the UK. The application for the ETA is done online https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. The answer is expected within 3 working days, costing GBP 20. The ETA allows multiple entries in the country for up to 6 months for a maximum of 2 years or until the passport used when applying expires.
