Venue: JCS Language Services runs their Italian Summer Camps from the University of Trapani on the island of Sicily, in Italy. Trapani is on the western end of the island, on the coast, across from the Aegadian Islands, about an hour’s drive from the Sicilian capital city of Palermo. Historically, this region of Sicily was renowned for its coral processing and the economy was based on fishing, tuna in particular, and saltworks. The old city of Trapani dating back to medieval times has many historic buildings, most of which are in the Baroque style. The city and nearby island have been identified as a possible inspiration for Ithaca in Homer’s Odyssey.
The programme: JCS Language Services, experts in translation, interpretation and language instruction, holds Italian Summer Camps at the University of Trapani, literally across the street from the Mediterranean Sea. All programmes include language study, accommodation with an Italian host family or in a B&B / hotel, and activities. There are several options available, to suit different budgets and tastes, with basic or superior accommodations and which include more or fewer activities and excursions. The programmes are for pre-teens, teens and young adults between the ages of 11 and 19.
Getting there: The closest major airport to Trapani is Palermo International Airport (PMO). The airport has a direct bus connection to Trapani. Travel time by bus, or by car, is approximately one hour. However, Trapani also has its own, smaller airport, with international connections to several European cities, Vincenzo Florio Civil Airport of Trapani-Birgi (TPS). From the Trapani Airport to the school takes around half an hour by car.
