French in Normandy is an award-winning, accredited French language school located in the heart of Normandy, Rouen.

Location: French in Normandy Rouen is located in the historic city of Rouen, the capital of the Normandy region of France. The school is on the left bank of the River Seine, opposite the Botanical gardens where students can picnic or play French boules, tennis table and basketball. It is just a short walk from the downtown shopping district. Attractions within walking distance of the school include the L'Atrium science museum and the Saint-Sever shopping centre, in addition to several eateries and amenities.

Social and cultural: The school provides students with an active social calendar. Trips and excursions available through the school can include Honfleur, Mont St Michel, the Landing Beaches and Bayeux Tapestry.

Course selection: French in Normandy offers a wide range of courses suitable to students of all levels and various needs, over several schedules and intensities. “Last minute calendar of 50+ activities. No group reception for socializing or meeting. No second Monday activity — only once a week travel out of Rouen. Only 1-2 hour activities to get into museum, etc. — I am comparing to Biarritz and Montpelier 50+ programs where we did a wine tasting, cheese tasting, went to cultural dances and had a lesson and took tours to two nearby villages. Also, in the Ritz, we had farewell dinners for the 50+ group that was paid for by the school, including all the transportation, getting to and from the restaurants. I would never do the 50+ at Rouen again!”

“I was in the B1 course and in the afternoon there was a mixed B1 and B2 class, which was too difficult for me and others, but there was only one other class left, and that was A1+2. Because of this, I didn't attend the afternoon classes for the last two weeks.
In addition, the class size was 14 people for two weeks. That was simply too many for the classrooms and tables. On top of that, new students joined every Monday, and there were constant changes in our B1 class, and only our class was always so big!”

The best teacher, in every way, was Alex.”
“My first week was practically lost in terms of my learning, since the course was aimed at young university students with a higher language level than mine and with activities accordingly. I think they should have put me in a lower level. The teacher spoke very fast and I could not understand anything. Her response to my comment was “I speak like this”.

The +50 course was very good, especially the second week, since the group went from 13 to 6 students. A pleasant atmosphere of camaraderie was generated. Due to the hyper-communicative system of the school, grammar is only done in the form of an explanation, an exercise and ...make do with the online practices.
As a negative note I noticed a certain anti-German spirit (partly understandable, but they should hide it), in the case of comments out of place of a teacher addressed to a German student directly and I did not find the movie “THE NAME”, very funny for me, but if I had been German it was to get up and leave.”

“There were a lot of guests in the homestay. Six guests in total! And of very different ages. I needed some time to get used to that. It was a challenge, at least for me, and it bothered me that the two young people didn't get enough attention, and they were resented for not liking the foreign food that much. I think that sometimes the guests and hosts were careless and a bit rude towards me, but that's just a small point. It was not that bad.”

"I've discovered that I don't really like living with people. My host family was very nice. The meals were extremely tasty and very well prepared. But I found it stressful to always have to speak French. I didn't experience enough relaxation because of that. I also preferred to be closer to the center of Rouen.

"Excellent is an understatement. My room on the first floor was impeccable, as was the bathroom. Cleanliness 10*. Unbeatable meals, delicious and super abundant. Fresh salads, delicious dishes, cheeses, and assorted desserts with fresh fruits. And both hosts, absolutely cordial and attentive. However, access to the kitchen is forbidden. Reasonable, it is just a comment, not a criticism.

“French in Normandy only closes for 2 public holidays: Easter Monday and Labour Day (+ Christmas holidays). So, there will be classes as normal on the 1st of November.
When we close for a public holiday, the full hours will be made up during the 4 other days of the week.”
