Venue: ELS Cleveland is located on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in the state of Ohio. Cleveland is situated on the southern shore of Lake Erie, across from Canada. This geographical location has been a key element in Cleveland’s history, as the Great Lakes were and still are a major thoroughfare for the import and export of goods. Cleveland is a city with a very interesting history; it has often played a part in popular political movements: abolitionism, labour movements, and alcohol smuggling during the United States’ prohibition era.
The Experience: Studying at ELS Cleveland on the Case Western Reserve University campus gives students a real opportunity to interact with other students and integrate in campus life. Case Western is ranked among America’s top universities, excelling particularly in the fields of law, medicine & biomedical sciences, engineering and business. ELS students have access to many of the campus facilities, alongside local students, including the sports complex, gymnasium, library and indoor swimming pool.
Programmes: The main focus at ELS Cleveland is on pathway programmes and preparing students for further studies at an American university or college. They have agreements with several local institutions and upon successful completion of their ELS course, students will fulfil the English language requirements for conditional admission to programmes at their partner schools, such as Case Western’s own Law programme.
Getting around: Cleveland’s public transportation system has been voted among one of the best in the country. It includes both bus and light rail and is highly efficient. ELS Cleveland is about a 15 minute walk from the closest metro station, Little Italy University Circle, on the red line. Case Western Reserve runs a free shuttle bus service on and around campus which also stops at the station. The Little Italy University Circle station is on a direct line to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) and travel time between the two is about 45 minutes.
