What we dislike about the school
  • Nationality mix could be more balanced. 70% of students are from Germany

Location: A few minutes walk from the town centre, students will find Centre Caribéen de Langues. In the quaint town of Sainte-Anne, on the east lung of Guadeloupe island, this French language school has a good location. The main centre of the town is minutes away by foot, and there are well-connected bus stops at the end of the road.

Getting around: The school is just down from the main road of Sainte-Anne. There are plenty of bus stops to travel locally or around the island. Restaurants, shops and local necessities line the highway, all of which are easily reachable from the school. The white pristine Caravelle beach is accessible by foot from Centre Caribéen de Langues, and it is a popular place for those who like water sports. The Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport is either a 30-minute car ride or an hour and a half on public transport, depending on the time of day and direction you take.

Course structure: The school provides French language classes in either a group setting or private classes directly with the teacher.

Accommodation: Accommodation can be booked through the school as a homestay, private bungalow or studio.

School facilities: Centre Caribéen de Langues has a compact library, wifi as well as free coffee and tea. The staff at the school are very knowledgeable about the island and all its special features. Whilst the school does not organise activities themselves, they are happy to advise students on excursions, which could include hiking, beaches, water sports, golf or even sailing.

Janine 1.0
"Christel, our teacher was super good. But the price-performance ratio is still not right. Laurence is very keen on money. She first offered me a studio, an hour's walk from the beach and the school. Don't believe what they tell you. She also rips you off on transfers back and forth from the airport. And you could always hear when someone was having lessons in the room next door. I enjoyed my holiday very much, but I wouldn't take this language school again. I know some people thought the same as me. It's overpriced for what you get."

“The coursework felt personalized to my needs. My teacher was friendly, down-to-earth, and attentive. All the teachers there are well-educated with quality materials. They separated us based on level. I was happy with the experience.”
“School is a bit bohemian in that it doesn't have air conditioning and is a little rough around the edges. It's not a bad thing, but be aware you will have an authentic Caribbean experience with heat.”
Insider tip: “Check sargassum activity.”
Quality of teaching / language progress: Taught completely in French NO ENGLISH.

Quality of teaching / language progress: Because of Covid, there was one-to-one lessons with 2 school hours a day. In the other two hours I was given appropriate grammatical exercises. I found everything very good.

“The teachers were very nice and inspiring. They all had a very positive attitude, were very helpful and encouraged the students in the learning process. They made the classes very interactive, fun and always tried to incorporate fun games and recent and relevant topics for discussion. I always looked forward to going to the classes.”
Insider tip: “Especially if you visit Guadeloupe in high season, try to arrange a rental car as soon as possible in order to explore the island after class and especially during the weekends. Be aware that the public transport system is not very convenient, particularly on the weekend. If you want to visit popular tourist destinations like Petite Terre, get your tickets as soon as possible, because only a limited number of visitors are allowed per day and tours tend to sell out.”
Other comments: Judging from the discription on the school's website I had expected that the school would organise more social activities and opportunities to explore the island and local culture. But unfortunately while I was there, there were no activities organised by the school and everything was done at the students' own initiative. I found this a pity, since everything was new for the students, who had to figure out everything by themselves while the staff would have more knowledge on all of these things.

“Very relaxed atmosphere with great local teachers who also joined us occasionally for dinners etc. The school is very small, which comes with the benefit of very small groups (2-4 students at the time when I was there).”

Quality of teaching / language progress: It was just one professor and there were only 3 students during my week there. The other too students were way more advanced than me so he had to teach me separately. Our time was one on one. Joel is an excellent professor and I would highly recommend him. He had a good grasp on what I needed and the pace was good to prevent me from getting frustrated. For a small school, it was very nice.

"I have already given my feedback that it is not clear enough in the booking process that you are NOT allowed to use the kitchen, so I would just like to note here that I shared a bathroom and did not get a towel, which I think was stated differently online. (I could have asked, but I didn't because I thought it would all be right). Martine and her family are great, the food was varied and delicious. However, I would only recommend the family to someone who is fit, because walking home for 30 minutes after school at 30 degrees and in the sun is definitely exhausting.

Questions and answers about Centre Caribéen de Langues

Are all the studios at the Centre Caribéen de Langues, Sainte-Anne, within walking distance of the school?
“They are around a 25-minute maximum walk.
Anyway, I will always recommend hiring a car in Guadeloupe.”
Kristel, from Centre Caribéen de Langues, Sainte-Anne - Dec 22, 2025
How do I know there is a course at my French level? Do I take a test?
“The placement test takes place on the first day of class and then the students are divided into classes.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 14, 2023
Can I be sure that I will get a group course? I might also want to take a few more private lessons, but I think I can arrange that when I get there.
“A minimum number of students per group is required for group courses. If this is not achieved, the school reserves the right to offer a reduced number of individual or mini-group lessons as an alternative. Schools cannot guarantee that students will be on site at the same level. You can also add private lessons spontaneously, since you would like to stay for several weeks.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 14, 2023
Does the school also arrange accommodation?
“On the profile of the school in Guadeloupe you can see the accommodation options. There are host families, studios or bungalows or you can look for accommodation yourself on the well-known websites. It is optional to use the school's accommodation service.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - Aug 14, 2023
Can I use the host family's kitchen?
“Basically, the use of the kitchen by guests is not allowed. Some families are ok with making a sandwich or salad, but the full kitchen can rarely be used, also for insurance reasons.”
Sabine Krafack, LanguageCourse.Net - May 02, 2023
How normal are vegetarians for the host families? I don't eat meat, so I'm wondering if it's better to only have breakfast instead of half board if the diet is very meat-oriented. Do you have experience there?
“We book many vegetarians and also some vegans as well as many other dietary requirements. It's not a problem at all.”
Joel, Director from Centre Caribéen de Langues - Feb 14, 2023

The evaluations by students after they complete a course is excellent. The discount for using your website is also a great incentive. It also would be wonderful if the website would include more cities and a bigger selection of schools in each city.

The service of languagecourse.net is great, I booked already 3 schools and I can highly recommend it. In fact, I tell everybody I meet on my journey in South America about this website and how well everything is organized.
Gabriele Ragger verified client
I am very satisfied. I found more/relevant information on your webpage than on the school's website itself. It is the cheapest offer. I'm going to book my next course on your site soon.

Your service was excellent, really following up and holding my hand.! My older step-brother used your service a few years ago to study Spanish in Salamanca and Granada and we found LanguageCourse.Net so helpful then as well.

Just keep up the good work. The organization is excellent, so that even less experienced travellers would feel ok to come to China. I also felt really good in the host family, they were really great!
