Location: Arabia Experience Institute Muscat is a language institute located on the outskirts of Muscat, Oman. Housed in the Al-Seeb coastal fishing province, to the northwest of Muscat, the school is close to several links to public transport, restaurants, supermarkets, shopping malls, gyms and places of social and cultural interest. Within walking distance of the school, students have places of interest such as the Muscat Mega Mall, Al Safa Mall, the Al Rayan Mosque and more.
Course selection: Arabia Experience Institute Muscat provides Arabic courses for students of an Elementary level or higher. Students can be 10 years old and above, with programme start dates every Monday. In addition to Arabic Courses, Arabia Experience Institute Muscat also supplies courses for learning Italian, Spanish, Russian, Persian, German, Chinese, English and more.
Social and cultural: Muscat is within a 40-minute journey of the school by car. Attractions and places of social and cultural interest in Muscat include the Mall of Oman, the Royal Opera House Muscat, Ala Alam Palace, the National Museum of Oman, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutrah Souq market, and much more.

“1. Educational issues
Doubts about qualifications:
The advertisement mentioned qualified teachers. Given the level observed, I have legitimate questions about:
The qualifications actually held by Mr Nasser and his legitimacy to teach Arabic.
The selection criteria for external contributors hired on an ad hoc basis.
Multiple changes of teachers in an attempt to satisfy me with the expected quality of teaching and pedagogy.
The only teacher whose methodology was structured and in line with my expectations (an Egyptian teacher) was dismissed twice without explanation, including for the last two days of the programme.
The other teachers were not sufficiently qualified.
Serious professional misconduct by Mr Nasser:
Lack of a defined programme or structured progression
Inability to answer grammar questions
Lack of corrections when reading texts
No clear methodology (improvised lessons)
Use of personal telephone during lessons
Systematic reduction of lesson time: between 5 and 25 minutes deducted from scheduled 50-minute lessons. He only became more rigorous about this after I sent you an email at the beginning of my stay, despite several direct reports, which were taken lightly.
Attempt to count a personal funeral visit as 2 hours of lessons under the pretext of immersion (even though the visit lasted less than an hour and nothing was done to make the immersion effective, such as explicitly asking those present to speak to me in Arabic and to help me practise).
It should also be noted that my legitimate requests for improvement were only taken into consideration after I explicitly threatened to refer the matter to you each time.
2. Organisational problems
Instability and lack of continuity in the course, with two days cancelled in the first week and recurring problems with Mr Nasser's punctuality.
Loss of actual teaching hours: I believe that a poorly conducted class by a teacher pulled out of a hat at the last minute should not be counted towards the course package.
Unstable management and arbitrary decisions.
Opaque communication regarding teachers.
Attempts to impose unjustified changes during the stay.
Overall, this gives the impression of constant improvisation and a lack of a serious academic framework.
3. Accommodation issues
The accommodation conditions are also far below what was advertised.
Insufficient equipment
Room with the bare minimum.
No refrigerator to store water or food.
Initial lack of a table and chair to work at (only obtained after requesting them).
Cleanliness and hygiene issues
Upon arrival:
Bathroom cleaned superficially.
Old soap scum encrusted in the shower.
Shower drain blocked with standing water.
Significant traces of faecal matter splattered under the toilet seat.
Broken squeegee provided only upon request to remove water from the shower.
Bin on the landing full and infested with insects.
Bin left dirty even after emptying.
During the stay:
No weekly cleaning despite what was advertised.
No change of sheets in three weeks.
Regular presence of small cockroaches in the bathroom and hallway.
Lack of basic equipment for washing clothes by hand (purchased at my own expense).
Personal purchase of a bath mat.
Unacceptable attempt to rehouse me:
One morning, without warning, I was forced to move to a completely dirty flat that had not been cleaned since its last occupant left, without any valid reason.”
