Location: Alexandria Institute Chios is a Greek language and culture institute located on the fifth-largest Greek island of Chios. The school is within Voulamandis House, around 2kms west of Karfas Beach.
Getting around: The island has a public bus network that assists students in their travels around the island's sights. In addition to this, private car and motorbike rentals are also readily available, as are both taxis and water taxis. Chios ferry port is around a 10-minute taxi ride from the school and from there, it is around a 9-hour ferry to Athens.
Course selection: Seasonal programmes are available for students of all levels. These Greek Literature and culture programmes are available for one, two, three or four-week durations a few times throughout the year. Emphasis throughout the course is placed on Greek Mythology, legends, culture, and local traditions. Students will take part in excursions and visits to aspects of the island's ancient and medieval history, including the Byzantine mosaics in Nea Moni monastery, the medieval mastic villages and much more.
Accommodation: Accommodation is available within Voulamandis House, a 3-star bed & breakfast with various room types.
Social and cultural: The top sights and attractions on Chios include the Castle of Chios, Chios Port, the Chios Mastic Museum, the Agio Gala Cave, Daskalopetra Homerus Stone and much more.

“I wouldn't say it's a weak point. The problem with schools is that they always focus on grammar. But that's understandable, because no teacher or school wants to do things by halves. But I don't want perfect grammar, because I don't want to study at a Greek university (where the language of instruction is Greek), I just want to be able to talk to Greeks. That means I want to focus my energy on vocabulary, and if my grammar isn't quite right, I don't care, as long as I can make myself understood. Is that clear?”

The courses from 1 June to 12 June 2026 and 6 Sept to 17 Sept 2026 will take place at Voulamandis House, while the courses from 15 June to to 26 June 2026 and 21 Sept to 2 Oct 2026 will be held at Perleas Mansion, both located in the picturesque area of Kampos.
The course from 23 Aug to 29 Aug 2026 will be held in Volissos village, in the northern part of the island, in cooperation with the local community.
Students who wish to deepen their learning experience may extend their studies to three or four weeks by combining consecutive sessions.
Private lessons are 60 minutes.
Course Locations and Schedule – Chios
Greek language and culture courses in Chios take place at two beautiful traditional mansions in the Kampos area — Voulamandis House and Perleas Mansion — as well as in the village of Volissos in the northern part of the island.
Each session is hosted at one of these venues, offering students the opportunity to experience different aspects of the island’s culture and landscape.
Both Kampos and Volissos provide an authentic learning environment that reflects the architecture, history, and hospitality of Chios.
Students who wish to extend their stay may combine consecutive sessions to create a three- or four-week learning program.
A special Greek Easter course is available only as a private or semi-private program, while private and group courses can also be arranged on demand throughout the year.- Individual classes
- Single individual lessons of tuition can be reserved at 35 €. The combination of group and individual lessons is highly recommended. Individual lessons will encourage you to actively speak the foreign language and will offer you the opportunity to discuss individual problems and weaknesses.
