Location: The ACE English junior camp takes place in the National Sports School, in Pembroke. Pembroke is on the eastern coast of Malta, just north of Sliema and Valletta. It is in a quiet residential area, close to the main road. There are a number of small local stores scattered throughout the streets. St George’s Bay, a small sandy alcove, is a 25-minute walk from the school.
Course structure: There are 20 English lessons per week, which take place in the morning. Spoken English is the main focus of these classes, with a large emphasis on everyday use of conversational English. This is practiced in a controlled way in the classroom environment, and through cultural activities afterwards.
Accommodation: Students will stay in a hotel junior residence. The facilities include an inside and outside swimming pool, games rooms, foosball table, pool table, vending machines and televisions in the student's bedrooms. There is 24-hour supervision at the reception, and the activity leaders are always on hand to help with any issues that could arise. This option is full board and there is a buffet restaurant where food is served, unless there is an excursion in which case a packed lunch will be provided.
Activities: The programme includes activities in the afternoon and in the evening, as well as excursions. Examples of the type of activities are Open-Air disco night, the ACE bowling tournament, Village treasure hunt, an evening at Golden Bay or Vittoriosa Birgu Quiz Night.
