Location: For those wanting a real taste of a traditional Italian city with quieter streets in the summer months and more interaction with locals then Bologna is the perfect place for you! Academya Lingue is in the inner rim of the city, near the Piazza Santo Stefano, with plenty of restaurants and bars scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Getting around: Bologna is very accessible by foot and the central Piazza Maggiore is only 5 minutes from the school and the spectacular Basilica di San Petronio is found here. There are plenty of bus stops here for those wanting to explore the city using this method to see attractions further outside the centre such as the MAMbo - Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna, which has a display of art from 1945 to present day or the Two Towers. The colours throughout Bologna interest a lot of visitors with the terracotta coloured roofs and walls painted in an array of different palettes gives the city an appeal, making for an excellent photo opportunity for strolls after class. Students wanting to explore other Italian cities such as Florence or Rome during their stay can take a train, which is arguably the best way to experience Italy, from the Bologna Central Train Station, 20 minutes from Academya Lingue.
Teaching style: The school follows a humanistic-affective method within the classroom by adopting small class sizes, no more than 8 students, to ensure specific interaction with the teacher and dedication to each student’s needs and desires when learning the Italian language.
Course structure: The course content is designed around the cognitive-communicative method which intertwines the basics of the language with the culture of the area and through this interaction embeds the Italian language within the student’s mind to use for the foreseeable future. Academya Lingue offers group classes as a standard course or a combination course and there is a senior course which takes into consideration the different teaching styles that may be needed for these students and reduces the class size to a maximum of 6 students to provide a safe learning environment. The school offers individual package programmes as well as specific private classes in a CILS Exam Preparation Course and a Business Course.
Social programme: Available for students to attend are after school activities to sample local life and culture as well as being a great tool to interact with fellow students and practise your Italian in Bolgna.
School facilities: The school has excellent facilities for students including a cafeteria, a library, free after class access to language learning software and wifi.

Danach konnte ich mir aussuchen, in welchen Kurs ich wollte, dabei wurde aber keine klare Ansage gemacht, was mich denn in diesen oder jenen Kurs erwarten würde. Da es ein stetes Kommen und Gehen der Schüler jedlichen Niveaus gab, empfand ich den Unterricht etwas erratisch.

“I was in a beginner class and from the beginning felt like I was in way over my head. The instructor spoke non stop Italian but a lot of the everyday words were lost on me. My instructor continuously said “allora” and it wasn’t until day 3 I asked what that meant. Despite my feeling of being so far behind everyone in the class, it was kinda fun. The instructor’s and fellow classmates were all so, so nice.”

“I enjoyed my 8 weeks at the school. Andrea the owner is so helpful and always tries to accommodate any requests. He tries to make you feel like family and always showed me a very warm welcome. They provide free afternoon activities, which are often interesting and help you orient you to Bologna and give you advice on places to visit. The teachers are lovely and not only try to teach you the language but also the customs and culture of Italy. We had many interesting discussions. The school is in a beautiful location in central Bologna.”

"The owner arrived 3 days after me, sending me a message of apology, I was a bit confused as she asked me to buy toilet paper which she would refund. My room wouldn't lock. Finally, she insisted and sent me her sister with the famous paper and a padlock. I thought breakfast was included, but the owner didn't offer me anything. However, she was happy to buy me some coffee when I asked for it. As that was enough for me, I didn't ask for anything else, but the price normally includes breakfast. Besides, I had a problem with my plane, so she offered me an extra night, which made up for it. The room was spacious and pretty. There were two bathrooms and a kitchen. All in all, a strange but pleasant stay at Costanza.

Teresa helped me with the bags because there are more than 60 steps and I can't lift weight. Didn't know there was no elevator. She carried my bags and got very tired.

On the first day of school there will be a brief verbal classification and then you will be assigned to a suitable class. One of the most appealing features of the Standard course option is that the total number of students per class is a maximum of 10, and in many cases there are less students than the maximum permitted. This allows every learner to participate easily in their lessons, without feeling overwhelmed, and also allows the teaching staff at Academya Lingue to get to know every student and their needs.
There are two parts to every class, with the first part being concerned with the more formal aspects of learning a language, such as grammar and vocabulary. The other part is more oriented towards Italian culture, current events, and related topics. During the break time for the lessons, the teacher and students go to a local cafe together, which is a fun opportunity to speak in Italian with the other customers taking their morning coffee.
