"The teachers were very friendly and the DALF preparation course was great. The facilities in the main school building were very good."
Negative aspects

Accommodation
"I would not recommend this accommodation! My mattress was very dirty, it had lots of stains and was mouldy. The flat was a smoking flat, my host mother mostly smoked on the balcony, but sometimes also in the flat (I had specified that I did not want to be accommodated in a smoking flat). This was very unpleasant for me. As an asthmatic, mould and smoking apartments are very problematic and can impair lung function in the long term. The hygiene conditions were poor; for example, the bathroom was already dirty when I arrived and three weeks later it still hadn't been cleaned. That's why I decided to take matters into my own hands and do some cleaning myself. The quality of the food was also questionable. One day, I found a completely mouldy tomato in the fridge, which contained a lot of open food.
I spoke to the school about the problems described above and agreed that I could change host families for the last week. One day before the change of host family, I had problems with my lungs. For this reason, I decided to stay in a hotel for the last night to protect my health."

Positive aspects of school
"- Biarritz is a beautiful city
- location of the school within walking distance of the ocean.
- facility that is equipped with a kitchen and refrigerator
- surfing course
- yoga course
- excursion to Bayonne"
Negative aspects
"- In the reception on the first day I noticed some disorganization.
- lack of a welcome packet (a pen and notebook would have sufficed).
- change of professor every week.
- all extracurricular activities were chargeable. I would have expected at least some free excursions. But especially some weekend activities.
- lack of an agreement with a store that rents bikes or scooters. Fortunately, they gave me a 5 percent discount for bike rental.
- convention with surf school ridiculous. Group course prices too high for the school. Almost nonexistent discount for individual lessons. I recommend improving this convention by increasing the discount for the school."

"It is not convenient to pay for surf lessons in advance. Because they are not refunded in case of absence. It is better to decide daily according to weather conditions and one's health condition. The cost is always 40 euros anyway."
Accommodation
"I noticed a slight lack of 'hygiene even during breakfast. The room was not cleaned after the first week. I had to buy toilet paper because it was pointed out to me that I was consuming so much.
I had to rent a bike to do the school-to-home route to be independent and because public transportation was not very punctual.
In the next course I will take a B&B closer to the school and to be more independent."

Positive aspects of school
"The atmosphere in the school was friendly and relaxed. The professor was very competent, thoughtful and willing to listen to the students' interests, including the content. The lessons were demanding but not overwhelming. The school is located near the sea. I liked that very much. I was able to improve my French and my enjoyment of the language increased. I wasn't interested in any afternoon activities, but I assume that surfing, for example, was nice."

Accommodation
"I lived in a flat with my husband. The location was very good as it was quiet and not far from the school and the beach. The furnishings were a bit older. There was some furniture in the flat that we could not use. The washing machine did not work and there were problems with the drain in the kitchen unit. Overall, it still had a certain charm, so we accepted the accommodation."

Positive aspects of school
"I was in a small group of 4-5 students. This gave a lot of opportunity to practice speaking and ask questions. The lessons became really individual and personal! The teacher had her laptop connected to a projector. If we didn't know words, she didn't just translate them, but showed us the pictures and explained it that way. I thought that was great! The lessons were regularly divided into a small grammar section at the beginning, then a lot of free speaking and practising and a small game at the end.
I really liked the fact that the surf lessons were organised through the school. It was stress-free and uncomplicated. You can surf every day except Saturday/Sunday."

"I did three weeks. It was perfect for me, but after three weeks of daily surfing and weekend excursions, I ran out of steam. You can always book more lessons on site and take individual lessons. Positive aspects of school
"The teachers were extremely committed to both integrating everyone at their own level and promoting them individually. In this way I was able to take the exam for a better DELF/DALF certificate than I had initially strived for. The integration of digital technologies into the classroom has also made learning easier and more varied. Finally, I liked the principle that there was a lot of oral communication in class."
Negative aspects
"In contrast to the online courses, there were only one or two groups in face-to-face classes and thus a loose division into performance classes. Despite the efforts made by the teachers to provide us with various assignments, the conversations together were far more effective for some than for others. In one case, participation in several online courses has proven to be more successful. The change, however, was absolutely no problem. Furthermore, I understood that the school was a testing center. The bus trip to an unknown location in Bayonne did not create the atmosphere of concentration that should exist before an exam, but it was easy to manage thanks to the good public transport network."

City/place
"Biarritz is a very beautiful Basque city whose traditions are recognizable. The coastline to the south exudes a certain charm with its steep slopes and the Côte des Basques is a great beach, but unfortunately only accessible for half a day. The Grande Plage is mainly used for tourist life, where it can get quite crowded in the high season. The weather is not so stable that Biarritz is the ideal place for sunbathing, but the waves there enable a unique surfing experience, which definitely makes up for a little wind or rain. The city is very well connected by buses and offers numerous restaurants."
Quality of teaching / language progress
"The face-to-face French classes were extremely sociable and didn't feel like school. The afternoon lessons of DELF/DALF exam preparation, on the other hand, were much more demanding and really exhausting at the beginning, but they also led to greater learning success."

"I would like, that the teachers should have programs for learning for 2, 3, 4 weeks.
I started with the subjunctive during the first week. I find that this is not the most important lesson. It would be fine to talk about everyday life, the school-system, the history or the habits, the conditions of this country to get used to the language and to learn important vocabulary you need everyday.
With the written and oral tests, the school should see what lessons are important for the pupils and so they could organize the class."
